My teaching experience has covered various situations, styles, and instruments. During my undergraduate work I taught general music at an elementary school, and did my student teaching as an instrumental teacher in an elementary school, and as a band teacher in a middle school. In my junior year I spent three weeks teaching in Uganda, where I taught high school aged beginners and intermediate brass and percussionists. For a typical beginner, I will first teach posture and note identification followed by basic warm-ups. Once the basics are taught, the student will be allowed more flexibility in the repertoire and specific skills he/she wants to learn. I have been teaching since I was in Highschool, specifically tutoring younger kids while I was a senior. From there, I helped with sectionals while I was at Baldwin Wallace University. When I started at the University of Akron, I accepted a full Clarinet assistant ship, teaching private lessons to Undergraduate Clarinetists and coaching chamber music. I feel they aren't learning from someone's book and they could do that with just the book, without me. If each of us learned from the same book we would all be playing the same music! They are here because they want to be shown. The last thing I want for my students is to feel burdened by bookwork while learning the guitar. Maya was born in Odessa, Ukraine. She started learning to play piano at the age of five and hasnt stopped since. Maya studied at the Conservatory in Ukraine and achieved Master of Arts in piano performance and piano teaching. Later she accompanied for dancers and singers of the Odessa Theater of Opera and Ballet. Maya teach music to childrens and adults more than 20 years. After moving to the US, she worked as an accompanist at the Andahazy School of Classical Ballet in Minnesotaand continues to teach. Read More
