Instruments: Guitar
I have been performing since age 7 playing classical piano in recitals with my sister. I got my first guitar at the age of 12. At 15 I was playing around town with different bands. After years of playing in garage bands, I applied to Wayne State University and enrolled in their music department. I have a variety of musical experiences to draw from which is a benefit to my students. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music
I am very personal in the way I handle my lessons! You come to me and tell me what you are looking to learn or accomplish and I will put together a plan to make that happen. I work with a lot of artists on their original music as well, getting them ready for recording the music or performing live. I also teach from a holistic approach taking into account many different elements that affect vocal health / performance. Read More
Instruments: Piano Keyboard
I was 4 years old when I found my passion for playing the piano. I was taught classically through MacPhail Center For Music and attended examinations yearly through The Royal Conservatory of Music. As I grew older, I taught friends and neighborhood kids how to play the piano and found a passion for teaching and watching people learn. I currently play the keyboard in a local band and do shows throughout the Twin Cities. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I strive to get all of my students to understand not just how to play music, but how to learn how to play music-similar to the old adage "give a man a fish and he can eat today, but teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for the rest of his life". I use a open school-style philosophy of teaching, which revolves around exploration of the music (trial and error, in a sense), as well as encouraging the students to be self-reflective, self-critical, and to ask as many questions as they want to in order to understand each musical concept within the confines of his/her individual learning style. Instruments: Voice Trumpet
I love seeing my students succeed and feel great about what they are learning and mastering. Because of this, I make sure to take each student into consideration and move them along at their individual pace. We set realistic goals in each lesson, while also pushing ourselves to be the best we can be! I like to give a clear understanding of what my students should be practicing while we are in the lesson, so that they are successful in their practice at home. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
For the first couple lessons I try to gauge how advanced students are in their studies. From then on, I choose material that is feasible and challenging so that students grow accordingly. A lot of learning comes from persistence and practice, so that is a must when it comes to learning with me! I try to find out what motivates the student and what makes them so interested in trumpet and go off of that. Read More
Instruments: Guitar
For beginng students i like to start with Hal Lenords guitar 1 book and progress from there. I like to start kids with reading notation and little melodies cause it will help them in the long run. As they progress we will move to more advanced methods. I also use books when teaching such as guitar 1 to 3 it helps students learn how to correctly play rhythms as well as read music notation.
