My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. My extensive background in performance of Rock, Country, Jazz, Funk, etc. provides the flexibility to focus on each students particular area of interest. I believe in helping students understand the basics of theory and technique to ensure there is a foundation to practice and maximize improvement. So far, I've taught some kids and adults.  I've learned that teaching kids versus teaching adult students is different. Each age group would require their own tasks. For instance, if I were to be teaching a kid who is maybe 10 years old, I would start off by introducing the notes on the instrument. I began teaching privately during the spring of 2018. I taught private orchestral percussion and drum set lessons at my home studio as well as high schools in the area. Since then, I accepted a position as a summer music instructor at Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa, IL. I have been teaching private piano lessons for almost ten years and flute for one. I love being able to work with students of all ages :) I worked for a time as the events coordinator in a nursing home and got to use music as therapy and even teach some of the senior residents!
