As I've developed my skills as a teacher, I've also developed my personal music philosophy which is: My priority and my goal is to create life-long music lovers. The greatest success to me is not a student with simply a high level of achievement, but one who continues to play and love music for the rest of their life, and I focus my teaching around this. I put a high emphasis on fundamentals early, because it builds in the skills to be comfortable playing music. Read More

This calling demands love and imagination, where the teacher and the student are invited on an adventure where we both strive to leave each lesson asking ourselves how the next might be better and how to better engage ourselves in our unique goals. It is my mission to teach your child the language of music. It is my goal to teach with this single purpose: my students will be able to give voice to that which they cannot and for which they have no words. Read More

For high school students, I use more advanced methods and techniques that ready them for competitive auditions and college careers. I adhere to their high school curriculum while developing very specific lesson plans and practice routines that fit their desired goals. I tend to use solo pieces and repertoire that will increase the students' sight reading proficiency, playing dexterity, and target strengths and weaknesses, while refining a solid technique package. For beginning students, I usually prefer to use the Suzuki method, as this is the method I grew up on, and I prefer to teach the knowledge that I find useful in the method. However, my lessons are not solely based on my preference, as I identify individual strengths and weaknesses and target those in the sessions. Ability level also has a big role in planning the direction of the lesson, as I do not use Suzuki for advanced students. Read More

Regardless of the level of musician, basic fundamentals are extremely important to a brass musician. In fundamental studies, we will learn lip slurs, tonguing exercises, efficient breathing, excellent buzzing technique, etc. We will achieve maximum proficiency in basic fundamentals by using method books (according to skill level) , such as Remington, Schlossberg, Arban's, ect., and personally curated exercises designed for the individual. In addition to fundamental practice, we will practice applying the skills learned in the fundamental practice with etudes, melodic etudes, and solos. Read More
