I believe in teaching music theory as well as technic and expression, no matter how young the student is. I believe the piano is a wonderful springboard to learning and exploring other instruments.For piano the student will study out of the theory and lesson books. Other types of finger excersizes and supplemental music will be used, there is a ton of free music online!I may also use other aides to teach the student such as flashcards, musical games, note finders, andcomputer games and sites.For the guitar I typically use Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method but then Ialso use lots of music found online free. I teach the beginning students with Essential Elements 2000: Eb Alto Saxophone, Book 1. It has the fingering charts for the student to use in practice. The playful tunes are good to work in lessons. For medium to advanced level, I will use Selected Duets by H. Voxman, Daily Studies for All Saxophones by Trent Kynaston, Ferling Etudes book, etc. I encourage the student to practice both technique (Scales, thirds, long tone exercise, tonguing) and etudes on daily basis. I am a caring and motivating music teacher and I love using students gifts to help develop their musicianship goals. I graduated from the University of Arizona in December of 2019 with a Bachelor of Music Education. My greatest passion is playing and teaching Irish music because I was given the opportunity to study abroad while in college and fell in love with the music tradition.
