Instruments: Cello
I am a passionate and fun loving instructor who adores bonding with students over a shared love of the cello. I have spent the past decade performing solo and in ensembles, and studying under the tutelage of many great professors. I am currently studying under Dr. Theodore Buccholz at the University of Arizona, where I am pursuing degrees in cello and neuroscience. The intersection between cello and neuroscience fascinates me, and I love to use my knowledge of the brain to make practicing as effective and effortless as possible for my students. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
After moving to the United States, my part-time orchestra jobs have included principal student violist of Conway Symphony Orchestra, associate principal violist of Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra, and sectional violist of Texarkana Symphony Orchestra. I have gradually understood the importance of the viola section, and how to contribute to an orchestra as a single violist. Three semesters later in May 2012, I received an Artist Diploma from the UCA, and then started to working on my Master Degree there in August 2012. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar
My teaching experiencess date back to my college days. Along with the pianoI also played the French Horn, Saxophone, Marimba and sang in voice studio. Those experiences allowed me to be in marching bands, symphonic bands, wind ensemble, choir, vocal jazz andaccompany other musicians on the piano. I'd say that in my second year in the Universityof Oregon marching band whenI auditioned for the pit and was chosen to play themarimba I was soooo excited! Read More
Instruments: Flute Clarinet Recorder Piccolo Music
My methodology is inspired by the Suzuki method, which believes that learning music is similar to how humans learn to speak first, and write later. In the end, music is a type of language. Having said that, I always have a conversation with my students, and/or their parents, to learn what artists they listen to, what their favorite songs are and what goals they want to achieve. As a result, my lessons are catered distinctively to each unique student, but what they all have in common will be a passion for music! Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
I enjoy sharing with my student of what I learned from my teacher and my performing experience. When the student come to our lesson, I encourage him or her starts with a tuning note and scales. It helps the student to warm up their sound and fingers and get ready for the lesson. It is important for all of us to know that there is no hurry during lesson and practice. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Trumpet Trombone Saxophone Oboe Music
I tailor my teaching to each student's needs and interests. I emphasize overall musicianship in addition to learning to the fundamentals of the particular instrument, splitting most lessons 50/50 between fundamentals on the instrument and musicianship skills such as music theory, sight-reading, sight-singing, playing by ear, and composition or improvisation. For students in a school band or orchestra program, I will work with them on their band music and bring in additional material as enrichment. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For piano students, I start with the Alfred or Bastien method series depending on age, and add lead sheet reading and Hanon exercises as well. I tailor lessons to the student, so if the student is interested in playing contemporary music, we work mainly on that. For voice, I assess the students range, current ability, and goals, and then we focus on vocal exercises that will help them improve their technique and on repertoire that interests them. Read More
