I began teaching when I was in High School, where I had several students of varying ages and skill levels.  I taught private lessons in their homes.  I encourage regular practice, and weekly lessons.  A mixture of method books and my own personal written lessons I have found to be the most effective teaching strategy. Books with a variety of popular solos I also utilize.  Method books are necessary for skill, but can get boring and repetitive for younger students.  Keeping things fresh and interesting is my main focus in teaching. Therefore, it doesn't matter what kind of music a student wants to sing as long as they approach the material from a relaxed and grounded place physically and mentally. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for playing flute! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, always asking for their input so that the direction of their musical journey can follow their desires. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs, and help ensure they have the necessary tools and support to reach their goals.
