Focus on proper technique for all students, regardless of his/her playing ability. Once proper technique is established, I utilize the Berklee Series as a basis for instruction. I start beginners with the drum rudiments and chart reading. This gets them able to move their hands and feet for better coordination. After they have better coordination I introduce ear training which is playing along to their favorite songs. This teaches the student how toplay with a band.
