Im big on using a metronome for all students and for them having a binder to keep all their papers. I find that if students can get down a sense of rhythm everything than falls into place which is where the meternome comes in. I find it important to establish early on what motivates the student, and incorporate that into every lesson in some facet. Along with the lesson, I also make it a point to establish and encourage consistent practice routines that make practicing the instrument more rewarding and less monotonous.
