I really just want people to enjoy what their doing. I definitely have some skills to efficiently practice, because I dont think anyone wants to waste time. The best thing is when my students are invested in their own progress, because I can help provide the needed skills to grow at different paces. I am a bit more relaxed with students that just want to have a positive musical experience, but I also can be very specific with students that wish to go on and study or perform music professionally. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For beginning piano students who are children, I usually begin with Alfred's Basic Piano Library or James Bastien. Once the student has grasped a good level of fundamentals, I begin to introduce level appropriate solo repertoire pieces not only of my choosing, but of the students choosing as well. For adults, I allow the student to guide by interests. If an adult student is interested in learning to read, then I begin with Alfred's Adult All-in-one Course: Lesson, Theory, Teaching. Read More

As aforementioned, every student is different. What inspires one particular student may not inspire another. I find it important to establish early on what motivates the student, and incorporate that into every lesson in some facet. Along with the lesson, I also make it a point to establish and encourage consistent practice routines that make practicing the instrument more rewarding and less monotonous. Establishing good practice techniques from the very beginning is essential, as they will be more likely to keep consistent with beneficial practice throughout their musical career. Read More

I began teaching guitar a little bit in high school. Then after college began teaching more and more and my experience grew. While obtaining my master's my focus was on different, unique strategies of teaching. I've taught roughly the ages from 5 up to late 60s. Many of these students I've directed in recitals as solo students or students in a group.
