I enjoy making my students as comfortable as possible while they learn. If a parent desires to stay with their student, they may. I also preach the importance of focused practice and focused lessons where we can much in a short amount of time. I believe in going at a pace that is right for the student. Some are incredibly quick to adapt and require more of a challenge. Some students take longer to understand and for them we would move at a modified pace. Read More

My first contact with music was during my early childhood, when I took piano, guitar and violin lessons. Growing up, I was always active playing with several youth orchestras and various ensembles, ranging from classical to popular and folk music. I studied piano and composition at the California State University, Sacramento, where I had the opportunity to study with world class musicians and be part of cutting edge orchestras and choirs; during my college years I went on several tours with a choir, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall, N.Y I currently perform as pianist and accompanist with Opera singers from the area, and also compose upon comissions. My lessons include a number of activities including piano instruction, ear training, theory, technique, and flash cards. They are all great learning tools for a well-rounded music education. I am the students greatest motivator. I love to bring out the best in all of my students and help them discover things about their musical capacities that they never have before. I am highly enthusiastic and believe that every one learns at their own pace. Its never about how quickly you learn something, but about how well you learn it, even if it takes time. I like to acknowledge the students progress and their accomplishments because I believe it helps the student to have the desire to keep learning and progressing. Read More

Performance without error in high stress situations defines music as an art at a different level. Abilities shared within a community give meaning and definition to its members on a more personal level than mere performance allows. Living in Japan taught me job dedication, time management and that to be an educator is a lifestyle not only a career. Teamwork and flexibility are fundamental when working abroad in new situations surrounded by foreign language, culture and systems. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Drums
I started taking drum lessons at 12 years old and studied jazz and swing drumming early on. I was a percussion major in college then spent a few years in Austin Texas traveling with country, rock and blues bands. Have played on over 20 records. My lessons are one on one and we both play side by side each at a drum set learning and having fun. My home studio is comfortable and provides a great atmosphere for music. Read More

My method for all my students is for them to be classically trained so learning the notes on the fretboard, proper technique and note reading. I use Christopher Parkening's Guitar method Book I to help my students learn the proper technique to play and for them to learn the notes in first position on the guitar and on the staff and beginner chord reading using chord diagrams at first and then showing them the chords on the staff.
