For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Suzuki, and easy scales. Once the student has progressed and appears to grasp the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes and solo pieces. I also teach students elementary music theory related to the pieces they are learning. For advanced students, I focus more on their technique and performance. I always recommend to include working on Studies/Etudes to find out week arias of your technique and find a perfect way to improve it in a smart a fun way. I am a Collaborative Piano Fellow at The Aspen Summer Music Festival and Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar. In 2016, I founded the Fredericksburg Innovative Flute Ensemble (FIFE) which grew from three to 18 members in just two years. While we took a break during the pandemic, we are now back full fledge with FIFE Jr. in the fall - which focuses on middle schoolers and teaching them how to play with other flute players.
