I am open to whatever a student seeks to learn through guitar lessons. The more attention I give to a student's interests, the more motivation I see in their abilities. I feel that giving students goals helps them learn at an increasingly consistent rate. Read More

I follow the American String Teachers Association's curriculum for orchestra education as a guideline for the skills and techniques that students must develop. The skills are developmentally sequenced and build upon one another like a stack of blocks. In each of my lessons, I assess what students know and what students could practice, and together, we remediate and master each skill or technique. I also frequently ask for student input on what music we are playing and what the student's goals are in order to better tailor each lesson. Read More

As a performer, I've been "1st call" guitarist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Pittsburgh Musical Theatre for many years. I've also toured the eastern half if the USA and Canada with country-rock and "top 40" circuit bands, and recently appeared locally with a Journey / Foreigner / Styx tribute band, "Any Way You Want It" and a popular Casino / club date band, "Metro." I'm currently very active as a solo guitarist for weddings, corporate events, and resorts. Read More

For piano students, I prefer Alfred's methods, whether the adult or for beginners. For band and orchestra, I use Essential Elements (or whatever their school is using), and supplement with Rubank's methods. For voice, I concentrate on whatever the student is interested in, with a foundation of good technique and understanding of the voice range and how to control it, with some solfege and sight-singing mixed in. Whatever the instrument, I follow and listen to the student to understand what they need, and change my curriculum to suit them. Read More

A strong drive to improve can come from competition, playing with friends, and above all else, practicing! I believe that competition is a strong drive to push students forward in whatever they are passionate about, and preforming with others is a great way to improve as well. I incorporate many of the practices that I learned from my instructors in college in my teachings, while some are easy to pick at others are more advanced, allowing myself as a teacher to push my students further early on and giving them a advantage for later on!
