I believe music should be a lot of fun. There should never be anything scary about learning something new to become a better person. I try to guide people through their musical journey as pleasantly as I can. That being said, hard work and perseverance are essential qualities for a beginning musician. Simply put, the more you put in, the more you'll get. I look forward to working with you. Read More

Teaching, for me, began when I was in high school; I taught summer drumset lessons at McQuaid Jesuit and taught Karate at Martial Arts America. This desire to teach was incorporated with my love of music...leading me to pursue a degree in Music Education. I began performing and competing in fourth grade, which continued into my college years. In my third year of undergraduate work, these elements of music led me as well as three of my percussion buddies to performances and clinics (that we taught) at the New York State School Music Association and the New York State Band Director's Association conventions. Every student is unique, and every student deserves a unique curriculum. That said, I usually start my absolute beginners off with open position chords and, when they're ready, open position scales - pentatonic and diatonic. We explore repertoire, often partially of the student's choosing. When this is established, we will dive into scales in all positions on the fretboard, and the corresponding modes for major, melodic minor, and harmonic minor. Read More

Being as humble as I can be, teaching is a privilege. I love that I'm able to offer great amounts of value to my students' lives! In my approach, I do my best to engage students with challenging questions in various capacities. I offer precise feedback. There's much we can learn from outside perspectives, and so I incorporate past experiences and insights coupled with colorful analogies for optimal growth. I also offer a diverse set of tools, that I myself employ, which makes practicing more efficient and enjoyable. Read More

From there, we create a plan to help you get to where you want to be, whether that be fundamental (breathing, embouchure, articulation, registration), advanced (riffing, ornamenting), musically (ear training, theory), or stylistically (classical, musical theater, pop, rock, etc). Guitar/Bass/Ukulele: I usually start beginners with the Hal Leonard method books, but also incorporate riffs and chords of your favorite songs from the very first lesson. Methods and techniques are needed to take your playing to the next level, but you also want to jam with your favorite songs! Read More

I craft a music program based on every individual's strenght, weakness and most important: interests. Having taught music in public schools for over 30 years, I am familiar with almost every pedagogical method. Whether it is Suzuki, Gordon, Kodaly, Orff or Barry Harris, I draw from all the methodology to help all students reach their comfort zones. I will also teach how to practice your instrument-something that is often neglected. Most important,I can teach how to actively listen to music. Read More

Again, music is a deeply personal subject and I want to encourage every student to find their unique voice and love for music. My goal is to develop strong all-around music skills along with learning the technique of the instrument they chose. Every student works at a different pace, and I plan accordingly. I like to set reachable, realistic goals for students each week to develop a strong sense of accomplishment and hunger to learn more the following week. Read More
