Seriousness and also keeping fun and interesting. Being serious to understand music is a science, and fun not to let it become tedious. Most music students don’t stick to practicing for the mere reason nobody has ever showed them the right way to practice, practice with the mind and not as a robot, and keeping it interesting and challenging. You need to challenge yourself, put yourself to the edge. Read More

I like to motivate the students to learn. I will teach fundamentals and theory through teaching guitar, voice or piano. However, the most important matter for me is the passion that I have for performance and I pass it to my students as I teach music. I like to make the lesson fun, including the student's interests for every age and level. Read More

For beginning students I typically start them off with a very simple method of repetition and mirror working first with one hand on the instrument then progressing to fret work. The fundamentals may seem tedious but they are necessary to reach a basic playing level in a short amount of time. I like to use both classical and modern music to interest all of my students and introduce them to new musical genres. Read More

A lesson with me equals half of the allotted time being used to learn good technique (i.e., learning healthy vocal habits, singing vocalises, learning to read music, playing scales, etc.) and the other half of the time singing and playing repertoire. The repertoire includes both pieces chosen by Kathy (always approved by the student) which excite and inspire the students particular musical tastes while providing a new challenge in technique to be conquered, and also pieces brought in by the student; for example, if a student is working on music for a specific performance, etc., or if they just really like a piece and want to learn how to play or sing it, I am always ready and willing to lend a hand and an ear! Since then, I have taught students on bass guitar, electric guitar, jazz, classical, and a variety of other forms of music. Classical is my area of expertise, which I performed throughout my undergraduate career. However, I have participated in performing bands in genres from rock to folk to reggae, and I am comfortable with almost any style of music. Read More

I led the musical theater program at Trinity Catholic Middle School for two years, have sung and acted plays at Curtain Call, and even helped produce the Boston Pops Fireworks spectacular last year. I studied Music Business at NYU and am in two bands that have played throughout the New York City area. I am passionate about various styles of playing from folk to rock to blues to you name it!
