This is why I create a unique curriculum for each student that is designed to meet their wants and needs as musicians. For example: if the goal of a student is to become a guitarist in a performing band that creates original music, I will emphasize song writing, improvisation, and ear training that is required to become that type of musician. This led to gigs playing "Footloose" and "Grease" and Fallsburg High School in the upper Hudson Valley. From 2011-2012, I interned at the National Guitar Workshop in New Milford, CT where I study pedagogy (teaching styles) and got to attend a master class with shred-guitar heavy weight Paul Gilbert. Following that phase, I move to applying the concept into the common playing playing situations that would arise in any particular scenario in their chosen music. Read More

For younger students I employ the Suzuki Method which comprises a series of books and particular approach to teaching that I've found to be quite effective. The books provide a very well thought out sequence of pieces that help the student learn all of the necessary skills to play the guitar in the context of actual music rather than abstract exercises, and the method encourages a lot of parental involvement which helps to make at home practice (the most important part of learning any instrument) much more effective. Nothing is better than watching a students progress in music! It's so important that every student goes at they're own speed. I set realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. I try to make the my student feel comfortable and not nerves about learning. I also wholeheartedly believe that although it may not be aligned with personal preference, it is imperative that all musicians, vocalist, and instrumentalist alike should be exposed to all genres of music for experience sake. It is important to practice, but it is even easier to listen. The classical technique has a rich history and practical use in many genres, so it is a good thing that you approach different styles and dissect what makes each unique in their own way. Read More
