I am an internationally touring guitarist and songwriter based in Philadelphia, PA who is as passionate about teaching as I am about playing. In 2002 I received my BFA from the prestigious conservatory at SUNY Purchase where I studied jazz guitar performance, studio production techniques and songwriting. Since then I have made a name for myself as a full-time guitarist, bandleader and music educator across all music genres with performances throughout North America and abroad. Read More

I tailor lesson plans based on your musical background, if any, and your goals. I think of lessons as collaborative, working together to figure out what works best for you. I studied academically, and I also grew up playing in punk bands in basements, so I can offer advice and exercises from multiple perspectives. I use both approaches to music fluidly in my life and I think the way people relate to music is totally personal. Read More

At our first lesson, we will dive into what YOU want to learn. It's my job as a teacher to facilitate a creative and challenging learning environment, but it's up to you, the student, to make the time we spend together something you would like to work on. I'm confident that we can both find common ground to stand on and find some great music to explore. Beginners will always use some sort of method book, learn to read music and rhythms. Read More

I have an extensive collection of teaching materials, so students usually get a copy to keep for themselves. As well as printed materials, I also transcribe material for students to keep if and when needed. I also make use of my laptop which can act as a makeshift amplifier for myself and have some resources on there to help break down songs into easy to learn segments which can be a lot of fun. I try to get to know the students as best as I can. I will ask them about their interests in music and outside of music. I also will learn what their weaknesses and strengths are and push them to improve all around. I have a pretty laid back style of teaching. My goal to encourage them, rather than make them feel bad or frustrated. I will simply tell them if they are sounding good, or I will tell them what they can do to sound better. Read More

My lessons are fun and interactive! A light-hearted approach to learning an instrument is very important. Especially considering the difficulty a stringed instrument can bring; it's very easy to become discouraged when met with a difficult instrument, in a lousy-not-fun lesson, with a grumpy instructor. I work to keep the air light and flexible. By flexible, I mean to say that if at any point my student feels disgruntled, then we adjust. Read More
