I have been playing guitar for over 10 years and would like to share my knowledge with the world. Currently I am attending Cal State East Bay as a jazz guitar major, and have an music associates degree at Diablo Valley College. Having been taught privately since I was a kid, I would like to improve upon different teaching methods that I wish were taught to me including music theory and improvisation skills. Read More

For beginner's in piano and guitar, I generally use the Alfred's and Mel Bay methods as starting places. In every situation, I tailor and personalize the curriculum to individual student needs; as students progress, I employ more and more personalized curriculum which reflects the research I have done into cognition and learning, and which maximizes the creative learning of the student. For more advanced students, I will challenge them in targeted domains, with customized exercises that focus upon their musical growth, with an emphasis on realizing their maximum potential. Read More

I am a motivated musician with nearly 20 years of experience in playing, writing, learning, and teaching music. My musical journey began with metal, exploring various genres within it. In high school, I delved into Punk, Hardcore, and Emo bands. During my early twenties, I dedicated time to studying Classical guitar and Jazz, while also immersing myself in Indie Rock and Shoegaze. My passion for music extends across a wide spectrum, and I take pleasure in learning from diverse genres. Read More

I typically perform an assessment with every individual during the first lesson. Depending on goals, I will recommend curriculum to achieve the desired results. If a classical approach is desired, I use the Alfred's Basic Piano series and the Hal Leonard method for guitar, along with scale and chord theory literature depending on the level of the student. I also teach jazz/pop accompaniment style improv playing so I print music out from various sources. Read More

I firmly believe that, as the Latin derivation of the word "Educate" would demonstrate, the key to teaching is NOT in the pouring of information into a student, but in the "Drawing Out" (E Ducere) of the student's interest and instincts... While lesson plans are very helpful as tools, I prefer to PERSONALIZE my instruction by first assessing the innate desires of the student and their initial acumen--and THEN devising a plan that COMBINES what THEY want with what i know as an educator will lead them to THEIR goals... With young students, I teach using the Royal Conservatory method. These books provide a good balance of technical development and quaity music. Once technical foundations are estabished, I will add ear training as well as theory and improvisation. For older students, I generally let them be the guide- whatever you want to work on is fine with me. Regardless of style, I try to make each lesson musical and fun. Read More
