I encourage regular practice on a consistent schedule, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. For example if I have a guitar student that really wants to be a lead guitarist I will play the solo of one of there favorite songs and teach them a small part of it or all of it if they are at an advanced level.
