For students who have played an instrument prior to our lessons, I try and shape a curriculum entirely based upon the specific goals of the student, and I rarely use text books although I use a lot of exercises and educational material when appropriate. I feel learning to play and transcribe songs and solos to increase a students self reliance and confidence is my most important job. Most students come to me looking for structure so I try and provide a clear path to their goals. Read More

I have been teaching music for many years. I enjoy watching my students progress in the learning process. I always ask what the student wants to learn such as style, a song, etc. I also accompany them playing the piano or guitar once they have learned the basic techniques, etc. This also helps them working with other musicians or singers. My teaching style varies. I do make recommendations such as teaching out of a Hal Leonard instructions books (for beginners) and or CD's Play along CD's. , Chord Theories, voicing s and improvisational techniques for the intermediate students ( i.e. basic blues) if they choose to. My teaching method consists of a focus on what the student is interested in, using what the student enjoys as a means of developing a comprehensive understanding of music and the guitar. I believe this method keeps students engaged with playing, and makes lessons and practicing fun, rather than feel like a chore. Lessons will deal with subjects such as scales, technique, and music theory. Although they may be tedious, I believe these things are important core elements to really understanding the guitar and music in general, and I would teach them in a way that would be fun for the student. As a musical teacher, I believe one of the most important goals is to learn to have fun while you practice. If your goal is to become a serious musician, many hours of practice is key but that cannot happen if you don't have the drive and motivation for it, so you must first enjoy what you are doing. I have always found that young children give up on their instruments too quickly because they find it to be too tedious or even boring. Read More

I am glad to say I’ve accomplished many things in the world of music; during my formative years as a guitarist, I took a few high school classes but honed most of my craft in private lessons and during my hours of practice at home. While at UCSB, I again studied privately (apart form completing my undergrad) with Mark Covey, a pupil of Christopher Parkening. Since then, as part of further professional development, I’ve briefly studied classical music with Taso Comanescu, ongoing with Marc Teicholz, and Jazz guitar briefly with John Storie in LA. I believe anyone has the ability to learn music. I feel it is my duty to help my students discover their own musical path. It is my passion to show you, you have the ability to overcome any obstacles you may face in music. On May 1st I graduated from Weber State University with my Bachelors in K-12 Music Education. I got the chance to be instructed by great minds like Viktor Uzur (known worldwide for the Richter/Uzur Duo) and work along side talented students like Fan Ya Lin (pianist with a professorship at Julliard).
