As stated previously, my end goal is to become a certified band director and am looking to get more experience with teaching. While in high school I helped fellow musicians in a sort of section leader role, as well as the "TA" for our stage crew class. In college I was in leadership in both the University Band Program and in my band fraternity, instructing both sides in how to preform music and how to become a great character at the same time! For piano students, I prefer Alfred's methods, whether the adult or for beginners. For band and orchestra, I use Essential Elements (or whatever their school is using), and supplement with Rubank's methods. For voice, I concentrate on whatever the student is interested in, with a foundation of good technique and understanding of the voice range and how to control it, with some solfege and sight-singing mixed in. Whatever the instrument, I follow and listen to the student to understand what they need, and change my curriculum to suit them. Read More

There are many students who just want to play a few songs. My approach is to give the student a skill set that would allow them to eventually learn a song without having to go to a teacher. I'm not the sort of teacher who just shows a student where to place their fingers to play a song without understanding what they're doing. I try to instill a deeper understanding of the workings of instrument, until the student becomes self-sufficient. Read More

Music has been a huge part of my life since birth. Both of my grandmothers were musicians, one a pianist, and the other an opera singer. My siblings and I all started learning an instrument at young ages, mine being flute. I later started learning guitar. Eventually I started performing and touring solo and with full bands and recording in professional recording studios. Throughout my adult years, I've been teaching multiple instruments (guitar, voice, bass, ukulele, and flute) both privately and in group settings. Read More

Recognizing and celebrating their achievements, both big and small, serves as a powerful motivator, inspiring them to reach for new heights in their musical journey. Taking inspiration from Victor Wootens philosophy, I strive to discover what truly inspires each student. By understanding their musical preferences and aspirations, I can tailor my instruction to their specific wants and needs, ensuring that every lesson is engaging, relevant, and deeply meaningful to them.
