I try to strike a balance between music lessons being serious and being fun. I expect my students to practice almost every day and I expect that the parents will be part of keeping them accountable for scheduling that practicing. Lessons are a combination of learning technical skills and learning songs, which usually are mostly classical songs with a few contemporary songs thrown in for motivation. Read More

My teaching style is very focused on the student's desire to learn what they want. Very early into taking on a new student, I try to find what/who inspires them. Doing so allows me to tailor my teaching to each individual student. I also like to have 3 main "small improvement" objectives for each lesson. There's improvement on what we did during our last lesson, improvement during the lesson with something new I will introduce, and improvement for our next lesson with something I will give to the students to work on themselves after our lesson. I have great joy in seeing my students succeed! When you succeed, I succeed. Together we are a team! I will correct you on the spot when there is an error, so you don't keep doing an incorrect guitar hand gesture. Skills my students learn with me include sight-reading, discovering new genres and improvisation. The sky is the limit! I will work on your songs (orginal or covers) with you to develop your skills. My main philosophy is that every student is different and should be treated accordingly. The methods I use are specifically tailored to each student and can be methods that I have learned or developed myself. I start students off by asking them collect ideas about their instrument and the music they enjoy. From that point, I begin to simultaneously teach technique and musicianship in relation to their expressed interests. The key to my teaching method is that I ask difficult questions and then I give the student time to think and develop an answer. Read More

My name is Jeehoon. I’ve studied voice performance over 15 years in Korea and the United States. In 2018, I completed and received a doctoral degree at the University of Minnesota. For 15 years, I conducted church and professional choirs and participated in many performances as an opera singer on stage. Through these experiences, I was able to know how to sing naturally and comfortably without any artificial sound. It ultimately became my goal when I teach my students. Read More

I began teaching private lessons in 1989. My focus is to understand what learning style my students have and base my teaching methods on their individual needs. In college I studied pedagogies (teaching methods) for band, orchestra and majored in vocal and classroom education. Since achieving my degree in teaching kindergarten through 12th grade education, I have worked in Preschool, Elementary, Middle School, and High School settings as well with the elderly. Read More

My teacher was very encouraging and always believed me, and I try to be that person for my students. There are lots of different types of guitar players and songwriters, so what I like to do is tailor each curriculum to the individual student's ability, goals, and taste in music. Working out of a book is fine in some cases, but I have found that expecting everyone to learn from the same method doesn't always work. Read More
