I'm a professional guitar/singer teacher, teach musics both in English, Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese if there's any interest, any kind of music. I've been playing/singing for 16 years, and done part of it as a job. I'm very passionate about music, and since guitar and voice always go together I think it's a great experience to do both at the same time. It doesn't take long to teach/learn if there is minimum training during the week, and and instrument is necessary for the student to practice. Read More

Instruments: Guitar

My name is Scott, and I am a driven, passionate and expressive lover of music. I picked up the guitar at a late age (15) and for 20 years have toured the country performing and recording. I am driven to teach people about the guitar because it has been the most consistant and positive force in my life. I have seen all of my dreams become reality and if I can help anyone from children to the elderly find that missing thing in their life or to achieve their goals? Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 20 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and students homes for the last 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I typically create my own lesson plans and try to cater them to the student. Most recently I've been working with trying to find a balance of teaching music theory and practical piano. When teaching theory, I often refer to Kotska's and Payne's "Tonal Harmony" for the order of the curriculum, and when it comes to exercises I will either write them out on the spot to demonstrate something to the student (I also feel it is important to SHOW the student how to MAKE music, ie. proper note notation, and symbol shape), or prepare them in advance if the content is more complex. Instruments: Guitar Voice Acoustic Guitar

I started teaching voice while at Purchase College and then focused on performing and writing, and came back to teaching last year. I use the techniques I've learned from my vocal teachers along the way, as long as my own ideas and perspectives on healthy, correct ways to sing your best. I believe strongly in teaching technique and basic theory in addition to singing whole pieces and performing. To me, every aspect of singing is enjoyable and I try to bring that sense of positivity and encouragment to my lessons. Read More

I believe that it's important to have heard a wide breadth of the kind of music that you might be interested in learning. As a jazz guitarist, and as a student of classical composition, it has been drilled into my head by scores of teachers (no pun intended!) that careful listening is the first (and most important) step in the process of learning. I would go home from guitar lessons in high school with handfuls of CDs, and feel that it is important to pass on a knowledge of the history of a given kind of music, whether it's afro-cuban jazz, R&B, classical, western swing, or prog rock! My teaching style really depends on the student taking the lessons. It's important to set realistic goals each week for students that way they can progress at his or her own pace. Recognizing accomplishments goes a long way to fuel a student's desire to progress and makes the student coming back to learn more. By finding out what inspires the student to play, I can tailor my methods to their own wants and needs. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
