I craft a music program based on every individual's strenght, weakness and most important: interests. Having taught music in public schools for over 30 years, I am familiar with almost every pedagogical method. Whether it is Suzuki, Gordon, Kodaly, Orff or Barry Harris, I draw from all the methodology to help all students reach their comfort zones. I will also teach how to practice your instrument-something that is often neglected. Most important,I can teach how to actively listen to music. Read More

I'm a unique and creative teacher who's passionate about developing the all-around musician. In 2012, I graduated from the Eastman School of Music with degrees in Viola Performance and from the highly acclaimed Music Education program. My time in school helped me to understand the necessity of properly developing musicianship as well as the technical skills required to play an instrument. This leads to more valuable and enjoyable lessons for the students. Read More

Playing with one hand first, then the other, then using both hands. Working on rhythm and coordination follows that. For students that are in the intermediate-advanced stage, how the lessons go really depends on what the student's goals are and what they want to focus on. I have a lot of music theory knowledge and compositional skills, I can teach active listening, playing by ear, composition itself, improvising, arpeggios with fingerings, altered scales, hybrid structures of chords, tritone substitutions, voice leading, inner harmony, soloing, phrasing, and comping. I fell in love with music at a young age, hearing relatives sing and play, and began taking guitar and bass lessons as a teen. I then majored in bass and music at Onondaga Community College, which is known for it's music program. I have had the opportunity to tour the country with a band out of Austin, Texas, as a signed professional musician with a national act. I recorded a love show for XM Radio, and have had a song played on NPR. Read More

Feeling and noticing that there has been gradual success is key to inspiring students to continue with their instrument. Playing a musical instrument presents numerous challenges mentally, physically, and sometimes emotionally. It is equally up to the teacher and the student to recognize the growth that has occured week to week. As long as the work is being put forth by both parties, finding success (even if small) will not be a difficult feat. Read More

When you were growing up and were learning to speak, no one told you to go practice speaking alone in your room until you were good enough to talk (or jam) with the masters. As a child you were already "jamming" with the masters, no adult decided not to speak with you because you weren't at their speaking level. I will do my best to make learning music as natural a process as possible. Read More

I have experience teaching private students from beginner to advanced levels and with students of all ages. Teaching voice requires the knowledge to help shape and expand technique in a healthy and appropriate manner, which I have developed during my years at Eastman. I also encourage my students to explore all different genres and work to apply the technique across all styles. I myself have performed in many musical productions and operas. Read More
