I am passionate about the beauty of music and helping others to understand it and express it. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and in Religious Studies from Elizabethtown College (May 2013), and graduated from the college's Honors Program. I have experience as a soloist, accompanist for various instruments and ensembles, piano teacher, a choir member, and a worship leader on both piano and guitar. Read More

Students that work with me aren't getting a teacher who won't challenge them to reach their goals. Like many of the students that come to me for lessons, I learned guitar at a relatively late age well into my teens. I was able to catch up to my peers by maintaining a diligent, intentional and varied practice regiment. I am half your teacher, half your coach. At the end of every lesson you will walk away with a clear idea of what your goals are, what you are going to practice this week and why I chose the homework I assigned. Read More

I think the student should begin by playing the exercise or piece very slowly with the metronome(a time keeping device). If they have to they can practice the right and left hand fingerings separately. They should start with the metronome at the slowest speed. When they feel like they can play with the right and left hands together they should gradually speed up the metronome. It may help to "prepare" each fingering before striking the string with the metronome at a manageable speed. Read More

I find my greatest joy in sharing music! I'm currently working on a Professional Jazz Guitar Certificate from the Berklee Academy of Music Online, but I have been studying as many genres as I am able to over the years. I love performing and having jam sessions with my friends, and I love meeting new musicians! I was performing in Southern Maryland but recently moved around the D.C area to begin my professional teaching career. Read More

Firstly, I teach the student the anatomy of the guitar and how to tune it, along with how to hold a pick. After that, I start teaching students how to identify notes on the fretboard. When they have a good grasp on that, I start to teach the basic modes, such as the major, minor, pentatonic, blues, lydian, mixolydian, and dorian modes, and while they are learning these, I give them exercises that use these modes to increase the student's mechanical skill, such as going up and down the scales in patterns of three/four/etc. Read More

I have over two decades of teaching experience and have taught hundreds of students, from ages four to eighty-four and at every level of ability. Since 1997, I have maintained a private studio. I have also taught at many different schools since 2001. From 2003 to 2013, I taught full-time at Music and Arts Centers throughout the Baltimore/Washington area. From 2006 through 2008, I taught at the School of Rock Silver Spring location, where I was a Show Director and Guitar Instructor. Read More

I always want my students to strive, as I do, toward an ideal, without an attachment to the result.  For example, if a student wants to play like Jimi Hendrix and become a Rock Star, we will talk about what it takes to reach that goal and work (and play) diligently and enthusiastically toward it, and when difficulties inevitably arise, that's OK.  Keep up the practice and you will most likely reach your goal. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
