What I have found works best with semi-slow but significant results is the idea of 'planting seeds'. I describe this concept quite regularly with my students, and what I mean by it is that we will often talk about important musical ideas and simply make the student aware of what's happening. They may not totally understand it right away, but the seed is planted. We start off planting many seeds and sometimes the same seed multiple times. Read More

I first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School where I directed trumpet master classes for high school students.I later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement composition. While earning my Master of Music at the University of the Arts, I served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams. Also at UArts, I was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which I conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. I am a knowledgeable musician who enjoys teaching classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar and musical theory. I graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Guitar Performance. During my time there I performed in the annual guitar ensemble recitals, honors recitals and my own senior recital. Since graduating I have gone on to teach a diverse group of students of all ages. Helping people understand the intricacies of music has been my goal and I'm happy to continue doing so. Read More

I have been teaching via a large retail chain and through my private studio for several years. Although this has worked out, I find the Retail operation to be a bit restrictive, especially for adults with limited time. I think the student benefits more by learning at a pace that is appropriate to their skill level. I currently teach students from kindergarten age though 70+ years. I teach guitar, bass, ukelele, and banjo. Read More

I began teaching five years ago around the age of twenty. Now, at twenty-five, I have had the opportunity to teach people from all walks of life, with ages ranging from 6 to 60! I encourage students to practice "perfect practice", which means they are as relaxed as possible when practicing (mentally and physically). Daily practice is also something I cannot emphasize enough, even if only for five or ten minutes a day. Read More
