Every student has different interests and a different learning style. I customize every lesson and lesson plan to meet the needs of my students. The first lesson is focused on my assessment of a students skills, interests, and learning styles. From there I will determine the most useful resources for each student. I will work with the method book that is being used in a student's school, in addition to method books designed for individual skill development such as the Rubank Method Books or Suzuki Method for string instruments. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the lesson books you or I provide, preferably Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

For every student. We can work on any material. From Classical to Jazz to Pop to Video game music. I am open to anything they are working on or wanting to work on. The material can be any type of difficult and any style. My job is to teach the fundamentals of flute sound production and make sure the student isnt working so hard to make a beautiful sound. Once the student has a beautiful sound we then work on other fundamentals such as articulation, double tonguing, triple tonguing and more advanced techniques. Read More

For my piano students, I teach them on a keyboard to get them familiarized with the layout of the piano. I teach proper fingerings, scales, and most importantly music theory. For my flute, clarinet, and saxophone students I work out of appropriate etude books for their performance level. I also teach jazz improvisation. However, I know that each person will have a different way of learning that works best for them, and so I choose the approach that will help each student excel. I choose techniques and repertoire based on a student's current abilities and progress and what I think best suits his or her tastes.
