I've had a love for music since I was a child, when my father played classical recordings at home every day. I've played piano and flute since age 10, and the enjoyment of it just keeps increasing! From elementary school through college I performed on flute, including as a soloist, in bands and orchestras; and as an adult I'm continuing that. I have been teaching the flute on and off over the past ten years when my full-time career has permitted. I have worked with children, teenagers and adults. I am encouraging, fun, supportive and patient while also challenging my students to give their personal best to their music studies. Like any instrument, the flute requires consistent regular practice in order to gain foundational skills and to progress. For all beginners, I start off with basics. I like to use the Rubank Beginner (or intermediate) book along with weekly scales. A well rounded musical foundation is vitally important, so I make sure to balance classical training with ear training assignments that get the student to listen critically to music they're passionate about. I feel it is important for us to have fun while learning.
