It is very important for the music instructor to learn the nature and characteristics of his/her students. It is crucial that the teacher can make adjustments to teach according to the nature of their students, some students can learn really fast and may have a desire to be pushed harder, but many students are either normal or may require a longer time to digest the material. I encourage students to practice in order to help their progress and I always model for students in the lesson. I believe that the students will learn best through listening and imitating.
New York-based musician Daniel Jamieson grew up in Toronto, Canada. He currently works as a free-lance composer, conductor, woodwind specialist, and educator. Daniel's writing commissions span a variety of styles including jazz, pop, and musical theatre. He leads a 10 piece jazz ensemble, the “Daniel Jamieson Tentet” and his own big band, the “Danjam Orchestra.” Daniel’s acclaimed 2011 debut release, SUDDEN APPEARANCE, places him at the forefront of the current crop of young big band leaders. The project was produced by Jim McNeely and featured John Riley on drums. Since then, Dan has attained international recognition for his work as a composer, arranger and conductor. He has collaborated with Joe Lovano (Coltrane Ballads Project), Kurt Elling, Marcus Miller, Ingrid Jensen, Vince Mendoza, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Metropole Orchestra. In 2009, Daniel received a Latin Grammy nomination for Bobby Sanabria's TITO PUENTE MASTERWORKS LIVE, which features Daniel on lead alto. Specializing in saxophones, clarinets, & flutes, Daniel has extensive pit-work experience including on-Broadway, off-Broadway and regional productions as a music director, orchestrator, and musician. Credits include: The Music Man, Chicago, How to Succeed in Business, Ragtime, Song Man Dance Man, Urinetown, & Scrooge in Concert. Dan attended the Claude Watson Arts Program at Earl Haig Secondary School and participated in the Humber College Community Music School Program. Daniel holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto where he studied with Alex Dean & Tim Ries, as well as a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Dave Liebman & Jim McNeely.
For beginner students with little to no playing experience, I usually start with the Essential Elements series, along with supplemental music theory instruction. I usually switch the student over to the Rubank books once they've grasped the fundamentals. I then introduce standard solo repertoire as well as etudes, orchestral excerpts, etc. I encourage ensemble playing and deep music listening to all my students as well.
I believe it is vitally important today to be able to play and read well as well as improvise. That is always been my approach with teaching. Giving the fundamentals and then using them in a creative way. If you are going to be a professional you really need the ability to improvise these days. Many situations demand it now more than ever.
I am a graduate of the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Studies. I have had the opportunity to perform and collaborate with artists all over the United States and, more recently, in Paris, France. I am a strong advocate for the arts, and being able to express yourself fully through it. This very well includes music. I feel that the way music is taught today does not emphasize the creative aspects of music enough. I am very passionate about changing the way students are taught music, discovering ways to allow my students to have a strong balance between creativity and technique.

There is no age limit to learning the flute! The flute is a fairly easy instrument to hold for young and old players. Our network of teachers will work with any age or skill level.
The teachers in our network create a customized lesson plan for every student. Topics covered during Musika's flute lessons may include, but are not limited to: correct embouchure formation, how to appropriately shape your lips to blow into the instrument, how to develop a solid tone in low and high registers, how to hold, assemble, and clean the instrument properly, fingerings for notes, techniques for developing quick finger action for passages, different articulation, how to slur or tongue cleanly, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the flute!
While flutes are relatively inexpensive compared to the other woodwinds, Musika suggests renting an instrument for beginning players. As the player becomes more advanced the student can consider purchasing a more advanced model with open-hole keys and a B foot joint. For young players who are smaller in size, the student can consider using a curved head joint (called a ""candy cane"" head joint) to facilitate playing.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home flute lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
The minimum age for beginning flute lessons would be around 7 years old. The flute does require a lot of lung capacity and the student needs to be big enough to blow properly and hold the flute up without letting the head tilt. If a young student is very eager to begin early, consider recorder lessons.

Darrell is A-Maz-Ing! He demands results from his students and therefore results come quickly. The time he spends teaching is intense and packed with great instruction. He is a tough teacher but offers lots of valuable instruction that is applicable for music as well as life in general. I highly recommend Darrell if you are ready for results!

We value Chelsea for the quality of her lessons, but also for the flexibility of her schedule. She has worked around family vacations, impromptu summer camps and the upcoming school year. Emily is better prepared to start middle school band this year due to flute lessons from Chelsea and we plan to continue the lessons for the foreseeable future.

Our daughter has only been playing the piano since March. Tony replaced our other teacher who had a job transfer and could no longer teach. Tony is fun and encouraging. My daughter is playing Taylor Swift and Christmas songs and is playing the piano more than ever before. Very happy so far with Mr Tony

My son is truly enjoying his lessons with Chris. He looks forward to them and is motivated to practice. Chris is conscientious and shows up on time and whenever he is supposed to. He communicates clearly if rescheduling is ever required and is accommodating when we need to change the day. I would recommend Chris to anyone.

"My daughter is 10 years old and has been taking piano lessons with Mr. Dale J. for almost 4 years now. She is progressing nicely. His kind and gentle way make for a very positive learning experience. Mr. Dale J. is encouraging without being harsh or belittling. He is patient and the ideal instructor for my daughter."

Ted S. is teaching clarinet to one of my children, and piano to two others. He is extremely knowledgeable, and very encouraging. His teaching methods are keeping my children enthused about their lessons, and without that, you have nothing. Two of my children were taking piano lesson from another teacher for the past year, and not progressing. Ted has been able to evaluate their skills individually, determine what was missing in their music education, and begin again with some early basics they seem to have missed. I am convinced we are finally moving forward, and am very happy about that. I wish I would have made this change much earlier.

Dr. Nedra C is incredible. She knows her craft in and out, it truly shows in her teaching. As well, she cares a great deal about the student, and preps plenty of material outside of the lesson for those that she teaches. I've had many different music teachers and am aware who's talented and cares, and who isn't. Dr. Nedra C is true phenomenal, and any student would be lucky to have her.

I honestly cannot say enough positive things about Rachel. We met her through CYT where my daughter took theater classes from Rachel and was directed by Rachel in several musicals. Because Rachel was so wonderful to work with and so clearly talented at teaching and directing, several years ago, my daughter started private vocal lesson with her and I have seen my daughter's vocal abilities grow in leaps and bounds. Rachel is an ace at picking music to work on that stretches abilities while at the same time, keeps vocal lessons fun. I highly recommend her as a voice and theater coach.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
