I always begin a lesson with a warm up. This can look different depending on the student, however I emphasize the importance of warming up your lungs, fingers, embouchure, and body. I then move to scales. For my beginner students, I use methods to learn the quick fingerings that is needed for basic fundamentals as well as exercises that assist in how we blow into the flute. Comprehensive method individually structured for each student.  Books depending on level and age start with Standard of Excellence and are individually chosen to support the student. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For beginning students, I typically like to work out of the Rubanks Elementary Flute Method Books. I also like to find repertoire which will interest each student, with solo repertoire and duets. As students progress, I like to work out of the Trevor Wye books as well as Taffanel et Gaubert Daily Exercises.
