I heavily focus on tone and fundamentals, so applying it to the music comes seamlessly. For tone, I like both Phillip Bernold books, on embouchure and sound. Sonorite by Moyse as well. As I said earlier I tend to use the Rubank and Essential Element books in lessons. I start with seeing what the students goals are and making a goal sheet. For instance if a student is interested in Musicals. We will start with our basic warm up and techniques but on top of that I would assign an excerpt from a musical that correlates with the current lesson. As a pianist, I took classes from IU that broadened my capability as a teacher to teach everything from general, choral, and instrumental music. I had my senior piano solo recital. I have a diverse range of performing experiences as a vocalist, including Opera, International Vocal Ensemble, and show choirs. With voice lessons, I have learned a lot about singing and being able to teach healthy singing.
