I do not put deadlines or timelines on any student's progress, and I also realize that each student's needs are unique to each and every person. I encourage positive self-assessments and self talk, and strongly believe that progress is based on collaborative efforts of the student and teacher. First I will assess each individual student based on their own skill level and requirements. In each lesson we will work on fundamentals of flute techniques, whether that is posture, embouchure, and/or finger techniques. In each of these lessons I hope to instill knowledge of music theory and history. We will learn many different styles of music ranging from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century flute music. I have experience teaching all ages and skill levels including very young first timers up to experienced adults. In addition to private lessons, I have taught at the Apprentices in Jazz Workshop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as a woodwind instructor, improvisation teacher, as well as big band director. How much time goes in to each category will depend on the student.
