I use the Alfred Piano series for most of my piano students. Woodwind students will use either Rubank or Hal Leonard series of books. During the first lesson, I will clarify the student's goals and needs and choose a book accordingly. I also add finger warm-ups and breathing exercises. Students are encouraged to pick a song from their own choosing to learn as a "fun-song". I am very much a goal-oriented and visual person, so I like to set clear goals for my students. I like to get to know my students personally and create a more open relationship. Some students learn much quicker than others and that is okay! But, I do always encourage my students to progress using proper techniques to prevent burnout and any injuries. My Masters Degree -Flute Performance is from The University of Michigan where I studied with Leone Buyse as a full scholarship student.While in Michigan, I had a large studio of private students in many local high schools.I taught at college music preparatories and privately while in Cleveland, Ohio where I studied with piccoloist William Hebert at Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music, also under scholarship. My Bachelors Degree in Flute Performance was achieved at The Peabody Institute of Music where I studied with Mark Sparks.Some of my international experience includes performing as a concerto soloist, recitals, orchestral musician andteachingmaster classes in China, Central and South America, Europe, Mexico and the USA. My style of lesson is like water.. No two students are alike. I must first test a beginner to see if they're tone deaf.. An advanced student is tested for any limitations or handicaps. Any good coach would study the student for any weakness, and formulate a viable plan to bridge the gap again to take them further faster.. Example: I have an 11 year old student that reads the pink panther very well, but has no clue what key he's in, or how to transpose etc. Read More
