I began teaching in Mississippi in 2011 to college students at the University of Southern Mississippi. After moving to Cincinnati, I began teaching preschool music. I began developing a preschool curriculum at the University of Cincinnati's Preparatory Program that combined reading, dancing, singing and imagining. After teaching privately for a year, I began my position as Executive Director of the Cincinnati Outreach (COR) Music Project. This usually consists of folk tunes or children's songs, but can be tailored to match the student's interests. More advanced students take their supplemental material from the Exploring Piano Classics series by Nancy Bachus. My band students use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements series and the Rubank Methods books (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced for each instrument). I usually start with the Rubank Elementary Method book. There are four books in the series and they are very comprehensive. Once the student progresses to the Intermediate book, I also add Selected Duets Volume 1. I have found that playing duets strengthens listening skills and intonation, plus they are fun! In 2016, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Clarinet Performance at Morehead State University, and in April 2018 I graduated with my Master of Music degree at the Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music.
