Last year, one of my 2nd Grade Chicago Public School Band students performed the National Anthem for memory on the Alto Saxophone in front of 1000's of people at a race. One of my 1st Grade Violin Students impressed the president of Columbia College of Music so much that my students were offered life-time scholarships to attend Blues Kid's Camp, held annually at Columbia College in Chicago. For beginning piano students, I use the Faber Piano Adventure series. This series is simple, filled with music theory, and keeps the young student motivated. For beginning flute students, I use the Trevor Wye flute instruction books, along with the curriculum that is being taught in the student's band class at school. As students advance, the next level books are taught, along with solo repertoire for recitals and other performances. Read More

When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. With adult musicians, I let them guide me to their area of interest, and I capitalize on that to guide them to better musicianship, no matter what their skill level may be. Read More

I began teaching privately in 2009 in Austin, TX. There I grew a full studio of saxophonists and clarinetists. In addition to private teaching, I coached several chamber music ensembles at various schools throughout the city. I moved to Colorado to study education at CU Boulder. There I had the privilege of working with such educators as Dr. Margaret Berg, Dr. David Rickels, and Professor Tom Myer. As well, I received my Suzuki certification in flute from Dr. Read More

I have been teaching flute for over 20 years and bring a wealth of experience working with students of all ages and abilities. In addition to running a thriving private studio, I have served as Associate Instructor of Flute at Indiana University during my graduate studies and as a Guest Artist at the Denver School of the Arts. I also co-direct the Mile High Flute Benders, a community flute choir that provides flutists with opportunities to grow as ensemble musicians. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I start with Rubank's Elementary Method book.  This will provide the student with the basic fundementals.  I will then introduce the student to a variety of solo repertoire for his or her instrument. I try to make my lessons as fun as possible so the child grows up with music as a fun, artistic outlet.  For students who already have knowledge on their instrument or who are adults, I aim to find what the student is interested in, and adjust my instruction accordingly. I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction.
