For students of all ages, I like to lead with the quote from Marcel Moyse; "Practicing is a matter a time, patience and intelligent work", for I believe that once this is applied to the idea of practicing and general encounters with ones instrument, then success and progress is guaranteed. I base my every teaching style according to what the individual student needs . Teaching a class of 60 students is much different than a one on one class. No two people are the same and so they should not be taught the same exact way. For ex. Some students are very driven and need to learn control- to slow down and learn awareness, rhythmic sensitivity. I began assisting teachers during high school for extra credit. It later became my job during Full Sail. I worked extensively with grades K-5 on reading, writing and math skills enrichment. For beginning students I teach out of the Rubank Elementary Method books. These books are most comprehensive for beginning students. As the student progresses I begin introducing them to solo repertoire, scales studies, and jazz improvisation. My approach is much different with adult students. I ask them what are their musical goals and from there I can create a curriculum based on adult students needs and wants. Always start where the student is, and take them from there. Always encourage and inspire students to be better than yesterday. Progress, no matter the amount, is progress. Take your own pace. If you have a specific deadline, for example a college audition, you will have to commit to practicing more than usual and we will create a plan of action. Also, I do write letters of recommendation.
