I have also taught private lessons on various instruments and in voice since 2008. I have had my students make All-State Honor Band/All-State Choir, I have had students get college scholarships and many have been accepted into colleges as music majors, I have had students nominated for the All-American Army Marching Band, and have even had students perform solo recitals in public venues. I enjoy teaching and especially enjoy teaching music more than anything. Read More

At the start of the lesson, I will emphasize tone and air control which I've found makes a huge difference as a warm up. The primary books I will work out of are Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. As students progress and I feel that they have a handle on the basics, I will slowly start to incorporate other repertoire that will be exciting to play and perform. Also, it's never too early to start teaching scales and having students memorize them which will greatly help and improve their technical ability. Read More

I started teaching two years ago at a private lesson studio in Denver called My Music Skool. My main focus was on piano and saxophone. Now I teach privately as a freelance musician. Two points I emphasize when teaching are practicing at least once a day no matter how long you play and learning what inspires you. There will always be some sort of theory I sneak in whether it's learning scales or building technical skills that will build confidence and ability, but if these devices aren't being applied to the type of music that inspires the student, then learning music becomes discouraging instead of fun. Developing a passion for music and having the confidence to perform is why I love my job. I love seeing my students achieve goals. I believe setting goals and accomplishing them are important, so I support my students until the end. Being able to perform and having the ability to capture an audience, first starts with the performer. I believe gaining confidence through an instrument is possible. I encourage students to tell me their goals and dreams so I can do my best to allow them to come true. Read More

First thing's first: 1) WHAT are you listening to, lately? 2) WHY are you interested in learning music? 3) WHERE do you hope music will take you? This helps me to find out what my student's interests are, and where their passion is. Two beginners of the same age learning the same instrument, for instance, can have vastly goals, interests, and areas of strength. For beginners: scales, simple melodic pieces, and a very basic overview of notation, key, and time. Read More
