While learning the fundamentals, I have some beginner-level pieces and etudes to help hone these skills before students move onto more advanced repertoire. I began teaching before I graduated from high school thanks to a tutoring program at the high school. I had so much fun working with the elementary school kids that I decided to build a studio up of my own and ever since i have been working with a number of students ages ranging from 4-80. My students are individually pushed to reach goals that they make for themselves at the start of lessons no matter what that goal might be and I love being able to make a fun journey to that goal. I am an instructor that focuses on building the whole musician. I can teach multiple disciplines including classical, baroque, jazz, latin jazz, Brazilian, rock, middle eastern, and others. In the last several years I have learned about flute pedagogy and teaching artistry from Marco Granados, audition repertoire and standard repertoire from the BSO's Clint Foreman, and baroque flute/period performance from Na'ama Lion. My philosophy is that flute instruction should extend beyond western concert music and conventional repertoire to build versatile musicians prepared for the modern musical world through a Socratic teaching method that builds the desire to learn. I consider myself a laid back teacher who still has solid expectations. I understand that each student's feasible time commitment may be different and I would like to honor that. With that said, I expect my students to put time into their music, because that is the only way to make progress and to maximize their ultimate enjoyment of playing an instrument.
