As a big believer in scales as the building blocks of good technique and music itself, I provide basic exercises as early on as possible. For intermediate and advanced students, I like to use the first lesson as an opportunity to hear a piece or two that they've played before, then work on some of the things they've already learned so I can determine what sorts of ideas they respond to and what they can work on improving. Dating back to 2019, I was teaching students part time at the local middle schools in my hometown. I have since moved away and I am looking to get back into teaching. As someone who had gaps of time where I did not have a teacher, I feel that having someone there to encourage you to keep going and to keep learning is the most important to ensure success.
