I believe in a very strong fundamental background and have created a set of exercises geared to maximize effectiveness, and guarantee progress. I usually start with the Rubank Elementary Method book. There are four books in the series and they are very comprehensive. Once the student progresses to the Intermediate book, I also add Selected Duets Volume 1. I have found that playing duets strengthens listening skills and intonation, plus they are fun! Solo and ensemble pieces are introduced as the student becomes more proficient and various performing opportunities begin to present themselves. Read More

I have been playing the clarinet for 33 years.    Although; clarinet is my primary instrument, I actually started my musical career on the viola and have been playing that for 34 years.   During the course of my career, I have had the unique experience of leading a bag pipe band.  I have also made a special emphasis on my studies in Latin percussion due to my background in Salsa music. I believe the most rewarding thing about being a teacher is seeing a student come into their lessons excited and passionate about their playing. One of the things I find encourages students to practice is to give them mini rewards when they successfully play a piece or etude, such as stickers or stamps. My first teacher did this for me and it was always very exciting to pick out which sticker I wanted in my music. Read More
