For students, if any caliber, I start by teaching fundamentals. Fundamentals make it possible to enjoy playing the instrument. This includes things like scales, breathing exercises, warmups. After that I then will begin teaching skills. Often times, when playing an instrument, one skill is made up of multiple skills. I like to focus on the smaller skills and fine tune them so students can grow on their instruments. 1My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia in May 2017 with two Bachelors degrees in music education and flute performance. In my time there, I completed secondary band methods, elementary band methods, elementary general music methods, as well as my student teaching at Morrow Elementary (band and general music) and Reed Middle Schools (band and general music) in the Central Islip School District on Long Island. It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others.
