Although working through the books and going onto the next level is the goal, I find it imperative ensure that the techniques are being fully utilized along the way. For beginning students, we work out of beginning method books such as Essential Elements or Standard of Excellence. This is supplemented with worksheets and personalized exercises specific to their needs. As the student advances, we will begin to introduce duets to begin to understand and play harmonized music. For all of my students, I stress the importance of fundamentals, and I use various etude studies and the works of Marcel Moyse to develop this.  To further complement the development of fundamentals and to encourage stylistic choices in musical expression and phrasing, music theory, music history, and ear training skills will be incorporated into lessons.  In addition, a portion of each lesson will be spent sight reading duets, which encourages sight reading skills and allows students to become accustomed to a more advanced level of playing.
