I'm a composer-flutist and flute/piano teacher who received a PhD in music composition and theory with departmental distinction from UC Davis in June 2021. I also hold a master's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory and a bachelor's from Columbia University. My own compositions have been performed at music festivals across the U.S. and in Europe. I feel it is important for us to have fun while learning. I also use practice sheets as a motivational tool for children, so they can earn stickers and small prizes for putting the practice time in required to learn the skills needed to continue moving to the next level. For flute, I use method books by Trevor Wye.  If the student is a beginner, I will start the student with the Beginners Book for the Flute by Trevor Wye (Book 1 and 2.)  Once the student is finished with these books, the student is now ready for the intermediate and advanced books by Trevor Wye.  It is a set of 5 books that focuses on each aspect of the flute, such as tone and technique. I have been teaching since college, where I frequently filled in as a substitute for private and group lessons and offered coaching to other music students who were pursuing flute as a secondary instrument. I then worked at several band programs in the Austin area, teaching private lessons and sectionals, while I was pursuing my master's degree.
