I have been teaching since 2007, and have worked with nearly all levels -- from the ultra beginners who have never held a flute to the advanced flutist who has gone on to place in competitions or won collegiate scholarships. I've had 6-year-old students and 60-year-old students. In addition, I also have given workshops on topics such as stage presence, vibrato, and intonation, and have conducted three different flute choirs. I'm very passionate about teaching and love to work with all ages of students. I had a studio in Mountain Top, PA for 25 years until our family moved to Utah. I recently relocated to the Lehigh Valley. I've performed with many orchestras and have coached many students to be able to compete and perform at Carnegie Hall for many years. For beginning piano students, I usually employ the Faber or Alfred Series books. They are intuitive and the various books (Lesson, Theory, Technique, Performance, etc) complement each other well! They also have an "older beginner" series that is great for teens and adults that are new to piano. I also encourage my students to try composition, even if it is very simple melodies. My lessons are student driven and customized to each student. I take a student's musical background and goals into consideration when coming up with the lesson plan for each lesson. I aspire to find a balance between challenging my students without frustrating or overwhelming them and giving them reasonably reached goals with them getting bored. I encourage student involvement and investment by allowing them to individualize their own lessons. What are the student's goals? Where do they need to be at a certain point in time? All students regardless of goals will learn fundamentals of music theory as well as flute tone and technique. I also encourage flute students to learn a variety of genres, even of those outside of their main focus.
