My experience in teaching began in college, teaching younger college students through my schools mentorship program. I also shadowed high school and middle school students lessons through the Hartt School Community division. I was able to learn to teach these students guided by several experienced and accomplished flute instructors. Now currently I am an adjunct flute instructor at NYU. I teach non-major flute students at NYU, which has allowed me to teach students with all different musical backgrounds and skill levels. Read More

For young beginner students, I start teaching with Book 1 of Accent on Achievement, by John O'Reilly and Mark Williams. As we advance, we will move on to Book 2. I have selected this book because I believe it introduces musical concepts in an easy to understand way, and it uses a fundamental selection of traditional and classical pieces. For my students who can play at an intermediate level, I will use the Trevor Wye Practice Books for the Flute, Omnibus edition. Read More

If following a school band's curriculum we can work on whatever book they require. To make lessons more personal we will move at the pace of the student, however most of the time their band director will have weekly playing assignments, It will be my goal to make sure each students is fully prepared for the assignment and for the more ambitious students, to go beyond. The student can come in with band music or we can find a music interest and strive towards improving while working on something they enjoy. Read More

I am developed an individual, highly effective teaching approach, combining basic music statements, free improvisation, improvisation on given changes and rhythm, sight-reading, music theory, discovering and incorporating music from different cultures and epochs. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Read More

In the first lesson I’m interested in getting to know my students, what music means to them, what they hope to accomplish whether that is to have a creative hobby or win competitions and establish a connection that makes them feel accepted, confident, safe and inspired to explore. I encourage them to express their thoughts, concerts and ask a lot of questions. I’m always there to tailor my answers and feedback based on every student’s learning style, need, age, and set of priorities. Read More

You can learn so much about a student in a 30 minute trial lesson! If a new student is not a total beginner, I will ask them to play their favorite song (or one of their favorites if they have trouble choosing just one). After their performance, I ask them what they liked about how they played. Its important for students to always be aware of what they do well. If they arent able to see their strengths on their own then I share with them what I think their strengths are and encourage them to keep that up. Read More

I shape every lesson according to the many different learning styles I encounter and I always make sure to squeeze in a couple laughs. My students are encouraged to audition for competitions and youth orchestras, so I do expect independent work to be done outside of our lessons. I am a teacher who understands life can get busy in school and personal lives, and I hope our lessons bring enjoyment and fun to learning. Read More
