I am a classically trained musician, specializing in woodwinds. I received my Bachelors of Music with an emphasis in Music Education and Music Therapy from Berklee College of Music in 2014. I have played with Symphonies, Big Bands, Jazz Bands, Ballets, and in many musical theater productions throughout California, and in Boston while attending Berklee. Read More

When it comes to my teaching style, it is important for the student to learn at their own pace. I will set goals for my students based off of how he or she learns so that they can progress in a way that is comfortable for them. I will never push the student to where he or she is uncomfortable and become discouraged and lose interest. I also encourage the students to ask any questions that they have and that should never feel embarrassed about their questions. Read More

They are more successful in all their musical endeavors, from chair placements and band or orchestra solos to solo recital performances and auditions. My teaching philosophy: Being a musician is more than just playing the right notes at the right time. Its about hard work, passion, and dedication, but its also about playfulness, creativity, and joy. My goal is to create a safe space in which every student has the opportunity to express themselves and develop the musical tools that will allow them to do so effectively. Read More

The key ingredient to learning is interest. I believe that my students need to have an interest in what they are playing so that they can keep their minds and spirits engaged. Rudiments require attention and practice, but there is much more to learning an instrument than just technique; passion also needs nurturing. If a student is really in to Star Wars, for example, I will gladly incorporate the 'Imperial March' into their rudimentary studies. Read More

I do not believe in a uniform approach for each person. Being in the right environment means everything for someone who is about to begin learning an instrument, be it his or her first encounter or not. This will manifest differently for each person. First impressions do mean everything in this case and that is why I am proud to say that anyone who has ever formally or informally attempted to find their embouchure with me or in front of me succeeded to find their voice. I love seeing my students grow in their knowledge and appreciation of music! Excellence is rewarding, and I teach the process to get there from whatever level we begin. I use positive reinforcement and notice what the student is doing right. Then, I give critique and an action plan to improve performance. It feels good for the student and teacher when they learn the methods to break down what is currently difficult into smaller pieces so that it is both manageable and possible to go further than they thought. This might be to learn to play specific pieces that they like, to gain help with something they are struggling in, to win first chair in their school ensemble, to win a competition, or to get into college as a musician, among many other things. With those goals in mind, I like to take a holistic approach to the learning process. We will work on developing a great tone, mastering technique, playing with strong intonation, and learning how to phrase and play expressively within the different types of music. Read More
