I am a motivated teacher who loves to teach flute and to share my passion of music.  I graduated from San Francisco State University with my Bachelors in Music in Classical Flute Performance.  I have studied with Leslie Chin and the second chair of the San Francisco Symphony, Linda Lukas.  I have been able to work with some great conductors such as Dr. Martin Seggelke and John Williams.  I am currently working on the soundtrack for the upcoming Star Wars film and I have completed the season 5 soundtrack of Game of Thrones in November of 2014. Depending on a student's musical background, I would typically start with foundational exercises like scales/arpeggios/broken chords and discussions of essential music theory elements to help a student progress. If the student is brand new to the flute, I would also do some breath work, and introduce exercises to improve tone and understand tuning. For beginning students, I place a large emphasis on the fundamentals i.e. scales, chord progressions etc. I also start them on solo pieces and like them to choose the pieces they are working on. I believe that if they choose their repertoire then they will have greater love and enthusiasm for the music. I also encourage them to push beyond what they think they can do. I like to tailor each lesson to a student's personal goals and skill level. If the student is a beginner, I typically begin with the method book Flute 101 to learn the appropriate fingerings, sound production, posture, etc. If the student does not have a prior musical background, we will also discuss note reading, ear training, and other aspects of musical education. If the student already knows the basic fundamentals of the instrument, I like to have a discussion about what the student is looking to achieve from their lessons. Read More

Making sure that the student is having fun, learning and achieving their musical goals is most important. I understand that each student progresses at their own pace and has diffrent goals and desires. While there are certian excersises that everyone needs to work on, solos and concert pieces are what students are drawn to.
