I love watching people improve little by little. Its what makes the job worth it! As the teacher, I will try to make every improvement celebrated. I will try to tailor the teaching style to the students personality, because everyone is different. We will take things at the students pace as well to ensure proper growth as a player. I also love to teach with imagery and storylines as well, in a way it makes learning even more fun and it can add more depth to any piece or even your everyday scales! Read More

I like to start from the ground up, which means I start with Music Theory. Yes starting off with learning how to play the instrument is great but, if you don't know what you're doing while you're blowing then whats the point? Read More

I began teaching private flute lessons in 1988. I continued my flute studio and became a band director in 2000, and taught band in North and South Carolina until 2014. I now reside in Keller, Texas and have opened my flute studio to online students and the Keller/Fort Worth area. I am excited about teaching online because that allows me to reach students that I would never meet otherwise. Read More

For beginning students I typically use Trevor Wye Book for Beginners along with Suzuki Book 1. Once sufficient progress has been made, I move on to the Marcel Moyse tone exercise as well as two octave scales and arpeggios paired with intermediate solo repertoire that focuses on tone development, musical phrasing, and musical style. This is all geared to prepare the student to perform with understanding versus pure technique. For young adults and adults, I work from the goals each want to achieve while also implementing traditional teaching materials that solidify the musical training. Read More

I have been honored to teach and also prepare several students in my life. Some of them are today accomplished musicians, others are yet in music schools. For example I have 3 students already in Berklee and another student is in Juliard, NY. Other students, are non musicians wanting to learn saxophone and music. I always adapt my teaching style to their capacities and encourage then to move forward and develop their saxophone skills in order to achieve our mutual goal. Read More

I am a recent graduate from the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance. I had a few elementary-age students at a small nearby music school during my four years there and I really enjoyed it! I want to be able to help students work on basic foundations and techniques as well as defining an individual's method on how to approach a piece. Read More

For beginners, I use Rebecca Simonfalvi's called "Potential Contender." It is geared for young children starting out in band. For adults, I generally move between Trevor Wye's "Beginners book for the flute" or the Rubank Elementary Method. If needed, especially with the young, I generally have my students take notes of lessons. I also teach basic theory to give students a deeper understanding of the music. For the advanced student, the focus becomes about fine-tuning fundamentals, and learning repertoire that will propel them forward to the next level. Read More
