I find duets are a great way to get better at sight reading and improving tuning, so I usually bring a level appropriate duet or two to each lesson. I've found that my students have a much higher level of success when they are encouraged to practice regularly at home. For a young 11 year old beginner, homework assignments will begin with the instrument itself, and then eventually Book One of any method book desired.
