Lessons will feature a warm-up period, followed by review of material from previous lessons, playing of new material, and wrap-up with sightreading and assignments for next lesson. Students are often encouraged to self-evaluate and set their own level of rigor. I believe in a collaborative approach that involves questioning students and having students ask questions of themselves. More than having students be able to perform technically, I want students to have an understanding of music and their instrument intimately, from their own awareness, rather than rote explanation or practice. For beginning students I teach out of the Rubank Elementary Method books. These books are most comprehensive for beginning students. As the student progresses I begin introducing them to solo repertoire, scales studies, and jazz improvisation. My approach is much different with adult students. I ask them what are their musical goals and from there I can create a curriculum based on adult students needs and wants. My teaching method works for all students, no matter the age or musical level. Read More

For students of all ages, I like to lead with the quote from Marcel Moyse; "Practicing is a matter a time, patience and intelligent work", for I believe that once this is applied to the idea of practicing and general encounters with ones instrument, then success and progress is guaranteed. Aside from that principle, I like the idea of independent work from students to keep them accountable on the journey to becoming a musician but a more interactive and demonstrative approach during the lesson to give students an idea of what needs to be done while being that good role model so that they may keep motivated work hard at becoming the best possible musicians. I began teaching in my sophomore year of college at the age of 19. I started by giving thirty minute to one hour lessons to local students. I soon began leading masterclasses for the flute students of the local middle and high schools. Most recently, I taught a masterclass to a large group (30-40) of high school flute students. I have also had training as a general music teacher (K-5), so I have taught children how to play the recorder. Read More

I began assisting teachers during high school for extra credit. It later became my job during Full Sail. I worked extensively with grades K-5 on reading, writing and math skills enrichment. When I graduated I started to see my joy was working with children and helping each individual get to their own "next level" and that is when I began teaching music privately. I encourage my students to enter competitions and recitals of which I help with the prep for and can conduct them there if need be. Read More

I create a hands on curriculum based on the students musical proficiency. Alongside this structured lesson plan, every student will receive training on proper practicing techniques which help build their sense of guidance, responsibility, and structure. Students will also receive training for embouchure and tone development as well as warm up etudes that cater to the students skill level. Music theory and terms will be infused within the lesson plans to ensure my student's proper use of signs and symbols. Read More

I began teaching flute lessons in college about 10 years ago. In addition to private lessons I have assisted with school concert and marching bands. In the beginning I like to ask each student what their goal is so that we can work towards that, whether it is to become first chair in band, make All-State, play for Solo Ensemble, perform with their church, or to just have fun and learn a new skill.
