I hold a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from the New England Conservatory. No matter if it's music theory, composition, or performance, my main idea is to intricately learn the about the music that interests you, learn how to apply it on your instrument, and then use your creativity to create something new. Libby writes out lesson plans for all her students according to what she and the student think is appropriate for the student's present acheivement. For all of my new students, I gauge where they are at in their musical development and start to create a plan for them. I assess their strengths first and then go right into areas that need work. I work a lot on fundamentals such as breathing, sound development, and comfortable hand position so that students can use their bodies most efficiently in their music making. I believe that learning music should be fun and inspiring, but that 95% of artistry is simply hard work!  I, therefore, aim to create a positive and encouraging environment for all of my students, while still setting challenging goals.  Additionally, I tailor my teaching to fit each student’s needs so that he or she can maximize learning potential. I first find out how the students learns best. Knowing if somebody is hands on, likes to listen, needs to watch, be shown etc. can impact the experience and quality of the lesson. Using analogies is something that has really helped me in my practicing so I enjoy passing that on. Setting realistic short term and long term goals are absolutely essential to progression, along with finding an inspiration.
