For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Rubank Elementary Method book and the Forty Little Pieces Collection for beginning flutists. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce additional solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance including pieces out of the 24 Short Concert Pieces for Flute and Piano book, as well as move on to the Intermediate and Advanced Rubank Method books. Having taught many students over the years, my favorite books for young beginners are the Rubank series and Pares Scale book. These give a good foundation and progression and have easy to read fingering charts. Once a student gets going with these I introduce simple duet books so that, by playing with me, they develop a strong sense of tone and intonation. The first solo books I recommend are collections of solo's by famous composers, these give the student the chance to gravitate toward the style and composer they like best. Read More

In 2018, I graduated with B.A. in Saxophone Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies at California State University, Long Beach. I am currently attending Manhattan School of Music for a Masters degree in Jazz Composition. I have enjoyed teaching since High School, when I traveled to teach students by bus. Later I traveled by car to homes to teach, but have only taught in my studio for over 20 years. I find that the lessons are better where I have all of my wealth of music. I try to relate to each student personally, so they feel comfortable, and enjoy their lessons.
